Off Topic: Conservative Hyprocrisy

So Gringrich admitted to having an affair during the Lewinski scandal.

And now conservatives want to pardon Libby.

I thought that the issue was the lying, not the substance and reason for lying. Apparently not in the minds of conservatives.

Should Bush be impeached for lying to the public about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? He’s pleading ignorance. But isn’t it his job to know? Where does the buck stop?

You’d have to prove that the President knowlingly lied, and that is something that I have not seen conclusively proved yet. However, if this country were a corporation he would have been fired a long, long time ago! He has never taken responsibility for not asking the right questions, not looking at contradictory intelligence etc., and we have seen more than a few other civilians and military officers fall for much less. For example, at Pendleton there is a battalion commander (LtCol) facing a possible trial for the Haditha killings. He likely had nothing to do with the event, and yet the simple fact that the buck stops with him means he could go to jail.

I agree that Libby should not be pardoned and I have lost all respect for Gingrich. I simply don’t understand the self destructive behavior that some of these so called leaders exibit. Clinton, Gingrich, the Natl. Assn. of Evangelical’s leader, and on and on. If someone so readily cheats on their wife, how can they be trusted? I can only surmise that many of the traits that allow folks like this to rise (obsession with power, acheivement etc) also lead to their downfall.

It doesn’t stop. Liberal or Conservative, Democrat or Republican, they’re all self-serving. Or at least enough of them are that the decent ones are completely overshadowed.

Even though our system is not officially two-party, it is so dominated by the pissing contests between them that progress becomes the victim, at the expense of the taxpayers.

What’s good for our country is irrelevant to these people; it’s only about advancing the elephant or donkey. In their efforts to discredit each other they both end up standing for nothing.

Clinton:
Clinton was impeached because he used his position to subvert a legal case(Paula Jones). He later, he used his position to try to do the same with Lewinski. All that the media seemed to pick up was the sex aspect (who really cares?.. I guess the media is locked onto ‘sex sells’).

Gingrich:
Admitted it fairly quickly when discovered, instead of trying to redefine what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is.. His wife may make him pay more than the any court/media scandal.

The difference is very simply that we are a country of laws. Gingrich having an affair made him a philanderer(part time/full time?), but that was not illegal. Clinton was also a philanderer as a result of (Paula Jones/Monica Lewinski). Philandering is not illegal (though the extreme right would want to make it a felony). It is what each did afterwards that sets them apart.

As for Libby. I am concerned if he would be pardoned. It would set a bad precedent, though in a way that precedent has already been set (look at pardons of other presidents as they leave office). This doesn’t make it right though.
