Mostly of the things that do happen probably in the middle of MM blvd, and are more petty crime, like people ripping of acura/honda badges from cars, occasional burglarly if you leave your garage doors open, etc. But probably not at that end of MM, and it doesn't happen that often. Again, this was what friends that live in MM told me.
I did hear one of my spouses coworkers was held up at gunpoint in her apartment complex last year as she was parking her car. I think it was that complex near the LA Fitness Center (can't think of the name anymore). But it was pretty random, and no one go hurt.

ParticipantI live in Mira Mesa, but on the other side, close to Caminito Santa Fe. My GF lives on that side, off Carol Canyon, so I am over there alot. I guess you need to tell us more about what you want. Do you have a family, are you renting a house or apt? are you commuting to somewhere or going to school? Roommates or just you? That kinda stuff.
I dont know jack about the schools, but I have heard they are ok.
The drive from the 15 to La Jolla/sorrento valley sucks. MM blvd gets really nasty at rush hour on that side. Everyone who uses the 15 to commute to SV goes through there. Same with Miramar. Budget half an hour to the 805.
Dont expect much street parking if you are in an apt.
The shopping and entertainment (movies etc.) are decent, but expect to commute for a good night life scene.
Crime, well, it is everywhere. Dont expect to keep your windows or doors unlocked. But it isnt like your gonna get carjacked everyday or anything. Be careful.
As for rents, they are all over the board. Some people have good deals, some people are trying to make you cover their bad RE purchases. Look around and you can find a decient rent. If you are single, young, and looking to save money, rent a room. There are plenty of them and a $550 a month rent is alot cheaper than $1200 for a 1bd/1bth.
Enjoy MM. Oh and it gets alot hotter on that side in the summer. -

Participantibjames,
MM is alot quieter than PB, but you are married, what do you care? π
That is a decient area, kinda a general sampling of MM overall. You will not have problems unless you have a house full of college students next door. Drive by the house at about 9 on a Sat night, and see who is around. I am in my 20’s still, so any good party house tips are always appreciated! Besides you have a driveway for parking as these are all SFR’s.
Watch out for the 15. I know the drive around that bend right by the post office can go from 40 to .000001 MPH at the busy times. Also, if your wife works off MM blvd, she is stuck, hope she likes listening to music in the car. If she works in the lower areas off the 5, take Calle Cristobal from Camino Ruiz. Much better drive.-

ParticipantI lived off Camino Ruiz and Mira Mesa Blvd. for almost 3 years. There were a few gang related drive by shootings a couple of blocks from us within that timeframe and because of that I would never suggest living in the heart of Mira Mesa near all the shopping centers. Too close to home for me. Our neighborhood was reasonably quiet, but lots of property crime…mostly cars broken into and some domestic violence issues. Make sure you keep all valuables out of your car and you shouldn’t have a problem (our cars were never touched). I also lived off Calle Cristobal and although I thought it was a nicer area, we still had the same car theft/break-in problems in the condo complexes. Mira Mesa overall is a high density area so obviously there is more opportunity for crime. Definitely agree with the other posters about living as close to the 805 as possible…it’s a nightmare getting to and from work from the main drag, but can be done if you know which off-streets to take. Good Luck!

Good Luck!
