GuestZk, there are risks in everything in life. Why should sex be an exception?
But groping is not OK. Quid pro quo for sex is not OK. Threats are not Ok. Basically, dirty old men behavior (and we all know what that is) is not OK.
Of course it depends on the allegations. None of the men are in jail, but corporations have reputations and female customers so they can fire the guys for damaging their brands. It’s a business decision, not a criminal matter.
It’s not even liberal or conservative, it’s the free market, deal with it. And the people making the firing decisions are mostly men.
Spdrun, I agree that Americans are puritanical. Especially those who hold those puritanical values should live by them. With a lifetime is practice it shouldn’t be hard.

I don’t think I have low testosterone… I think it’s all about training oneself to be civilized and to uphold high standards of a civilized person. You can think it but you don’t have to act on it. That’s how you resist eating junk food that’s bad for you or fucking the wrong person. Go to church and God with help deal with temptation.
Incidentally, I manage units in low income communities and I see a lot of family drama all related to fucking and having kids with the wrong person.

ParticipantDefine “wrong person”. If you have common interests, enjoy each others’ company, and get along well, then it’s the right person, regardless of whether you work with them or not.
Rules as far as relationships between consenting adults are stupid. Fifty years ago, people were still being jailed or shot for being in a relationship or marrying the wrong color human.

I agree. BUT… nature does not justify men’s behavior.
Notice that none of the men involved are good looking young studs. They are all dirty old men who use their social power for sex. The dirty old men are empowered by civilization to act out their base instincts. In real nature, the old men would be cast aside and killed off already.
BTW, I don’t think of fucking every female I see. You know, Trump says “I don’t think so, I don’t think so!” That’s a good standard to have to avoid what’s not good for you. I don’t eat himburgers or drink soda because “I don’t think so.”

Natural selection has optimized the economics of the reproductive process.
Mating is a risk/reward decision. The reward is offspring, which is continued existence, which is the only metric that matters in biology.
Biology has created a system with two genders, and the risk/reward profiles are very different for each. Females have limited reproductive resources and take a huge risk every time they mate since pregnancy is very dangerous. So female behavior has evolved to be selective. Males have effectively unlimited reproductive resources and incur very little risk for the same reward.
In the context of biology, men are not absurd because nothing is absurd. There is no right or wrong. There is only a single, binary standard: an organism exists or it does not.
But the ethics we’ve invented in modern society ignores biology, creating an irreconcilable chasm between reality and ideals.
That’s why we have, and probably will always will have, the mess that we are in today.

Very good points as always, Harvey But consider that civilization subverted nuture by allowing socio economic power to trump brutal handsomeness and masculinity so that dirty old men past their prime are able to hang on and have sex with the most desirable women. In nature, old men are just throw-aways.
Our rules and ethics restrain the socio economic power of men. Old men such as Charlie Rose, just need to be content with their money and leave the fucking to young studs. If they want sex, they should use charm and wit instead of money/power/coercion to bed the women they desire.
So in a sense, we are going back to nature, or aligning our values with the natural order.

What he did was ask women (with whom he did not work, but who were in the field of comedy) if he could masturbate in front of them. They said yes, and he did. The narrative is that they felt that there was some implied coercion. That if they said no, he might hurt (or not help) their careers. There was no explicit quid-pro-quo and no physical coercion. But he appears to have lost his career.

Don’t feel sorry for CK. He signed a contract and his employer felt they had good cause to terminate him.
I don’t think it’s good for men and woman to hang around for decades in the media as larger than life. They should go away and allow new young talent to rise. That’s the natural order.

A hostile environment is created when sexual advances are unwelcomed. The unwelcomeness is the key. And that’s the problem with old men making sexual advances. There is creep and hostile factor.

I suppose there is probably a correlative study somewhere that says “Heterosexual woman consistently overestimate men’s interest in taking them out for dinner and talking about their friends from spin class” or similar. There are other factors, naturally. But that one is a real problem.
