I think after the big pharmas/biotechs start buying out all the smaller hopefuls, the next step will be mergers with the big boys.
Glaxo (GSK) is buying Human Genome Sciences for $3 billion.

I am also loading up on QCOM. Many analysts state this is a $65 stock by EOY. Trading in mid 50’s now is a great discount…
QCOM after hours up $3.25/share (5.8%), flu you can stop worrying about those gift cards………..

If there’s any type of correction back down $20/share … (Kicking myself right now, because it was $19.50 a 3 weeks ago).
Pretty big player NFC market right now…If you dont know what NFC, never mind.
If you believe in mobile payments taking off, and/or seemless media integration, me thinks they are currently the game in town (at least for now).
Also…pull this idea out of my ass, with a small $6billion pricetag, I’d say also potential acquisition target by a bigger company.

MCP was a really big speculation play when china (which dominates the rare minerals) was threatening to curtail exports…Those rare minerals are used a lot in technology components, but the majority of it is mined overseas in china…. MCP is one of the mining companies in U.S., so when they announced they would start mining in U.S., during that time it shot up due to speculation….At the time tech was demand smartphone shipments, computer shipments, high. So speculators thinking there would be a rare m. crunch, pushed this company another others way up…
Well, the euro crisis fiasco happened, as well as other things…Tech companies cut back on their outlook And suddenly, the speculation of demand for rare m. seemed to fallen…Also, china relaxed a bit, dropping the fear of rare m. shortages even further…Looks like we might be back to square 1 when China again is going to impose export limits….So it would be interesting to see what happens…. Not suggesting one buys now, or that even MCP is a good company to play in this space…But I just want to wait and see what happens…..Caution…extremely extremely risky…

everyday should be like today…My day off half day, do less labor, logon and watch net asset value go up… I think I could get use to this… Just need to make sure everything is sold before year end, after all this might be the last year that I get to not pay my fair share of taxes 🙁

August 19, 2012 at 4:50 PM #750542desmondParticipantI copied this on NFC (I did not know what it was)
“I can’t imagine that it wouldn’t. NFC is pretty much a “me too” thing, meaning that you need it to be competitive. Payment with NFC (Near Field Communication) is going to be huge. It remains to be seen how the cake is going to be divided among players, but I like NXPI’s position, since you certainly need the smartphone hardware.
Right now, we use conventional debit/credit cards with a magnetic strip. There are also “smartcards” that have an RFID chip on them allow the card to be updated, that is, the prepaid balance reduced. Nothing, however, surpasses the convenience of having all your debit, credit, and prepaid cards on your smartphone. Plus the many other uses NFC could have, such as bus/subway passes, school attendance apps, parking, food stamps, and general ID.
Smartphones (and perhaps smartphone-like devices with telephony as an application) will dominate our lives in a few years in a way we can only imagine now. Digimarc has developed software that allows smartphones to “see and hear”, INVN has developed motion-sensitive hardware, GLUU has “freemium” smartphone games, and everyone you can name is developing ways to buy instantly on your smartphone. MITEK has software that allows you to deposit checks with your smartphone.
The mind boggles. We are early in the adoption stage, but it will be a freight train”

Here’s a demo of NFC using mobile payments with google wallet. It’s already available with citibank mastercard…
Basically, you wave your mobile phone across an NFC enabled payment card reader… NFC also allows one to transfer data between the two systems, so there huge potential for this moving forward both hardware and software.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKuUzNnb8aQ
Beyond using NFC for mobile payment, it also allows two people to more easily transfer data between each other (peer to peer).
Android is pushing this with the latest software versions…Also known as “Android Beam”. You can exchange your contact information or exchange pictures with someone else by placing two phones together…
(Contact exchange happens over NFC… Picture exchange actually happens over bluetooth ,because NFC can’t send that much data. But the all the Bluetooth setup is done over NFC)…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EB6YEcQJlM
NFC isn’t only going into phones and tablets and payment readers. They’re going to make their way into tv’s and other media devices…..
