How Healthy is the RE Market?

Okay. I’ve been reading and posting comments here for a little while. I’ve been of the same thought-process as many on this board for years and have resisted buying b/c I did not think the escalation in housing prices was justified or safe – expecting an unhappy ending for many.

So when I come across something like this, I question everything I read and it boggles my mind. I remember looking at this property about 2 to 3 years ago. Two little rundown shacks selling for what I thought was an unreasonable price, but zoned multi. Soon thereafter, bought, I figured by a developer.

Now here we are and the developer has four framed and put on the market for over a million each.

So if this market is not doing so well, who the heck is going to buy a condo/row house for over a million. It’s in P.B., not La Jolla. Nothing against P.B. I check the market there to see if anything makes sense. But it does have a bad rep, noise, parties, crime, stabbings, robberies, rapes, car break-ins, vandalism, etc. It takes a certain type person to tolerate that nonsense. Usually someone who doesn’t have a million dollars to throw at a new place, or renters.

I continue to be confused.

I agree that it’s like putting the Taj Mahal in TJ, but if you show these units to somebody not familiar with PB during the summer, they might fall in love with it. Pay off the bums to leave the area for the afternoon. Buy the guys in the party house next door tickets to the game that day so they’re not around.
