ParticipantGot that right Rustico. 92115 is definitely not El Cajon. It’s the College Area incorporating communities like El Cerrito, Redwood Village (formaerly Darnall), Talmadge, Rolando as well as the College area infamous of late for all the Mini-Dorms.

ParticipantAnd you got that right, sdrealtor! My old stomping grounds. I thought you were North County Coastal. You know even more than I already thought you did…

ParticipantI am NCC but I know lots about many many places in SD. Spent a few years on the Mesa taking grad classes P/T and lived in a rental in Rolando Village which has some great little pockets.

Participantjg said: lniles, why do you think the laid off engineers and techies will be able to find work quickly here in San Diego? Were you speaking tongue-in-cheek?
I don’t know why that is tongue-in-cheek, it is really hard to find qualified engineers in SoCal right now. One can get a similar salary in other, much cheaper, parts of the country so it is hard to get new grads to come here and I don’t know any currently-employed, competent engineers that are currently in danger of a lay-off. Things may be different for IT or software people, but degreed engineers are in high demand.
Things might change (and fast), but right now it is hard to get work done with all the head-hunters calling. We have way more work (and funding) than people right now.-one muggle

GuestYou’re right, o m; it is hard to find qualified engineers here in SoCal.
I work in the medical device field, and we are trying to fill two Mech. Eng./Mfg. Eng. positions; tough sledding. And, the salaries for experienced folks are ridiculously high, too.
I think I have my eyes glued to the horizon, and am missing some of the details right around me.

ParticipantHi jg,
Sorry for the delay, I’m in Tokyo at the moment.
Correct, I didn’t mean it tongue-in-cheek but just based on the fact that I’m in the field (ASICs/Semiconductors for Telecom) and engineers are in demand. I get calls all the time, and know that Qualcomm is hiring.
Other companies in the news laying off are: Motorola, Dell, IBM.
