I’ve received a couple different bids for replacement fencing recently, but only one of the two companies has been responsive and seems like they’d be easy to work with. I’m looking to have about 48 feet of 5 foot privacy cedar fencing with a lattice top installed as well as 3 gates spread among the areas that will be fenced. they quoted me $4100 to remove the old fencing and install the new fencing with new posts.
I was also told that wood fencing is more expensive than vinyl due to being harder to install these days. I highly prefer the look of wood so vinyl is out at this point. When I broke it down that $4100 bid comes out to about $85 a foot for fencing! Seems excessive but i’d like to get a second opinion.
From the point of view of someone who had to replace their fence. Got bids:
56 linear feet, 2 gates, height of fence is 64″. Everything is cedar except posts, which are pressure treated 4x4s.
The item that is getting you are the gates. You should have a breakdown showing the prices of the ‘parts’.
Two bids from diff companies:
#1: 56 linear feet came close to $3000, about $480 per gate.
#2: 56 linear feet came close to $2000, about $300 per gate.
Included removal and haul away of old fence and gates.
NOTE: be careful on gates. The problem with pressure treat is that it ‘moves’ a bit as it ages – making tolerances a possible problem, though pressure treat is necessary when putting posts into the ground.
Roughly 75 feet on both sides with my neighbors on picking up half the cost and their gate cost. Cost to me was roughly 2100 each side plus another 500 per gate so I would say its in line with all the cost I have seen. Mine were vinyl with new post… And yeah the fence guys are so busy that they do not return calls…
