here’s my one time cost to cut the cord:
$60 for HDTV antenna
$200 for ooma
$300 for computer
$200 for media extender
$100 for tuner card (2 tuners)monthly of $40 for AT&T DSL.
very easy to do. there is plenty of programming on air or on Hulu.
save about $100 per month, return in initial investment in 8 months, this really is a no brainer.

We bought a $15 antenna from Target and it works great receiving HD channels.
For sports, you can get some stuff on ESPN3.com which they offer to residential customers using certain high speed internet providers. I also hear you get some sports shows via Veetle.com, its hit or miss whether you can get the event you want.
Finally, we picked up a $45 DVI to HDMI converter to stream anything on the Mac to the TV. This also works great for any shows available online.
Its been about 6 months since we cut cable and rarely miss it

May 14, 2011 at 10:30 AM #696137CardiffBaseballParticipantMy issue really revolves around the fact that I still pay for MLB.tv, UFC fights and Netflix. Then I find between those three and regular network programming we pretty much get what we need. Sounds like if I get regular Cable into the house that ESPN3 will an option. Since the kids have small HD monitors, I can get the other one a Roku, and perhaps one for the main TV and spare. Still a bit of an upfront investment.
OTOH I think ATT Uverse has streaming to iPhone/Android devices? I guess slingbox would do that as well. Certainly even cable will get more interesting as they integrate to your smart phones but man you end up paying through the nose.
