I think it can pretty much be boiled down to 3 classes of people, those that don’t work, those that have to work (or as is fondly said these days “get to work” ), and those that don’t have to work. Most of us are pretty much in the “get to work” class.

AN, I mixed up 92121 and 92122 in my thread-starter. I represented 92121 as UC when it is actually in 92122. The “roomier complexes” I am referring to are behind LJ Village Square. There may only be two or three complexes but they are large, with large units, built around ’79 to ’80. I do NOT know what zip code they are in (92122?). I remember LJ Colony as being in 92121, which is extremely dense. 92122 (UC) feeds in to Standley Middle and UC High. These are decent schools.
To most people, when you say 92121, they would think of these homes:
http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v=2&cp=32.91490169904485~-117.19162942473167&lvl=16&sty=h&where1=92121%2C%20CA. The old townhouse/condo in 92121 I’m talking about is this one: http://www.bing.com/maps/Default.aspx?v=2&cp=32.8818987259987~-117.21908457577229&lvl=19&sty=h&where1=92121%2C%20CA and Wateridge townhomes are these: http://www.bing.com/maps/Default.aspx?v=2&cp=32.89837645550906~-117.20533557236195&lvl=18&sty=h&where1=92121%2C%20CAAre you talking about condos and townhouses on the other side of the 5? I think west of the 5 by LJ Village Square have LJ zip code while east of the 5 is 92122 and is consider UC. La Jolla Colony is 92122. I don’t know which school the old townhouse complex in 92121 goes to, but the rest of 92121 goes to MM schools (92126).

May 18, 2010 at 8:55 PM #551622bearishgurlParticipant
. . . You just need to be willing to purchase Spring clothes in Fall and vice-versa.
UCGal, I did this every year when my kids were in Elem. School. Be flexible. You have to buy a size or two up. Holiday velvet outfits in Jan. were $6-$12 (retail $75-90). Easter dresses in July for $8 (retail $40-50). Shorts in Sept. at $5 ea. Jeans in Feb. for $8 ea. Boots in Jan for $8-12. You get the picture. Always shopped at Macy’s, Robinson-May and Penneys and always bought top brand names, nothing less.
Don’t be afraid to purchase underwear and socks on the broken packages table. They’re .50 ea. Sometimes designer clothing (ex. Guess?) was stepped on or slightly ripped. If you pointed that out at the register, you could get another 10-15% off. Go home and wash it and take 5 mins. sewing it π
Of course, it helped that I was in South Bay, where all the county stores dump their unsold inventory for fast clearance. I always got there right when the stores opened on a Sat. morn. and waited in line to get in π
