Partypup I’m confused. The OP shows your alarm about the airborne nature of this flu, your belief that we should wear masks, it escaped from a lab, that it’s “the first ever bird-pig-human” form of this virus… Now you’re saying your real cause for alarm was the world’s reaction to the news. If you really want to know the answer to why the news is stirring things up, you only need look in the mirror and ask why you’re trying to do the same thing here on the blog. Are you part of a conspiracy?
I’m pretty confident that I have the accumulated resistance to fight it without dying, but I can’t say the same for my son.
Sorry, but this is wrong again and you should really read up on the virus, not just the conspiracy theories about evil vaccines.
Young healthy people with strong immune systems react most powerfully to the virus but the very strength of their reaction produces inflammation and secretions in the lungs which can be overwhelming. In the US, the virus appears to be targeting children who are suffering only mild illness. link
In other words, it is the reaction of STRONG immune systems which cause the greatest damage for this particular virus. Babies suffer mild effects. People aged 20 to 40 have stronger reactions. (still less than 0.5% of those infected die).
This information is readily available if you search for it instead of googling conspiracy + evil plot + doomsday + secret lab virus + obama antichrist

April 27, 2009 at 7:43 PM #388498CoronitaParticipantI really feel bad for Mexico City residence..Not only do they have to deal with this swine flu, but they also had to deal with an earthquake today….
http://www.bittenandbound.com/2009/04/27/mexico-city-earthquake-video/
An earthquake measuring 5.6 in magnitude struck central Mexico at 11:46 a.m. local time today, causing buildings to sway and people to rush into the streets. The epicenter was in the state of Guerrero near Chilpancingo, 43 miles northeast of the resort city of Acapulco, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Hotels were evacuated as a precaution, though no damage has been reported. Tremors were reported to have been felt in the capital city of Mexico City, some 145 miles to the north of Acapulco
. The vibrations shook buildings for 30 to 40 seconds, causing citizens to flee from the tall office buildings.USGS earthquake analyst Don Blakeman said, “The quake was felt strongly in Mexico City because the epicenter was at a relatively shallow depth of 30 miles, and the ground under the capital – which was built on a former lake bed – tends to intensify shock waves.”
The city is currently dealing with an outbreak of Swine Flu that has officials scrambling to contain the illness.

April 27, 2009 at 8:01 PM #388503nostradamusParticipantYup. 149 dead in the flu outbreak would cause a lot of panic there. Thankfully I’m not seeing any earthquake related deaths. Extra-thankfully there have been no flu-related deaths in the US even though at least 28 people in NYC are infected as well as people in several other states.
