Cry babies on this board

Actually, I think that the internet forums are having quite a bit of impact on trends. The MSM frequently follows leads and repeats analyses that were first developed by regular folks on various internet forums. Some of those forums have more influence than others. Piggs have been quoted in the SD Tribune and the LA Times, with and without attribution, on a number of occasions. Even the Wall Street Journal and the NY Times have picked up a byline or two that was originally developed here.

I daresay a Joe Average citizen who can research, analyze and communicate their opinions in a cogent manner can exert far more influence by participating in a reasonably moderated internet forum than they can by writing 200 letters to politicians who won’t do anything that isn’t supported by poll numbers.

This is something the DC crowd has been learning the hard way.

As a recent transplant out from DC area, I’ve noticed that locals out here seem to be generally apolitical.

I often visit DC and it seems to me everything there is over-politicized. Everything from what you drink and eat to which hand you wipe your ass with, is viewed in terms of politics.

I think coming from there to any part of the US, the people would seem apolitical.

Whats the big deal here. The OP is coming from DC. Of course he/she is far more politically sensitive. Talk to someone from NYC and they’ll decry the lack of good restaurants, nightlife or culture. If we were in DC we’d be crying about the lack of decent surf or outdoor activities.
