Most portion of R56 is expandable by narrowing the open space between east bound and west bound, but there are some overpasses need to be expanded {need to widen bridge like structure to add additional lanes} since there are no available space in the middle. I do not know who manages R56, but I hope they have money in the future when it is needed.
Based on what I see so far, there are two major locations started suffering from heavy traffic during rush hours, the one is at junction at R56 and R5, but it jams between the junction to carmel valley exit and another one is around in black mountain road exit right on PQ.

That is one of the reasons we are looking into PQ and CMR, so we could use the I-15 to 52 route to commute to La Jolla…
