While I dont actually commute I am on the 5 heading north pretty often. By around 6 the worst is over.

December 7, 2010 at 4:49 PM #636492anParticipant
For the same price and square feet, and all else (schools, neighborhood) being equal, would you trade longer, less flexible/convenient commute for a newer (by 10-15 yr+) house?
I personally put commute time highest on my priority list. I draw the line at 20 minutes door to door. Rather have older & smaller and shorter commute than bigger/newer but have to to deal w/ longer & less flexible commute.December 7, 2010 at 4:49 PM #636566anParticipant
For the same price and square feet, and all else (schools, neighborhood) being equal, would you trade longer, less flexible/convenient commute for a newer (by 10-15 yr+) house?
Wow, 20 minutes. That’d be tall order for buying a 500K 4 bdr SFR to commute 20′ to downtown La Jolla. That is my current commute (from UTC area) – that’s why we RENT there :). I expect to put in more at least 10-15′ more each way if I buy somewhere else. Even PQ is like, 25′ door to door ( my boss lives there). I spend at least 10′ of my commute on La Jolla city streets; that would stay the same regardless of where we live. I put my limit at 30-35′. The PQ commute is much more flexible, plus, one can use either I-5 or I-15 if need be.December 7, 2010 at 6:20 PM #636601ScarlettParticipant

For the same price and square feet, and all else (schools, neighborhood) being equal, would you trade longer, less flexible/convenient commute for a newer (by 10-15 yr+) house?
