92122 starts on the other side East of I-5. Once you cross 5, you are in La Jolla. UCSD is in La Jolla zip code, as is the the La Jolla Village Square (92037)- across from the Mormon Temple (which is 92122). La Jolla Colony and UTC are 92122. Some exceptions – housing west of Genessee and North of La JOlla Village Dr, even though East of 5 are still in La Jolla zip code (Regents La Jolla, La Jolla Tennis Club) but they go to UC schools.
Thank you for that clarification, Scarlett!
But as far as I know, UCSD has its own zip code, 92192 and 92193 (PO Boxes).
Also, a “La Jolla” (annexed condo) residence doesn’t necessarily equate to “guaranteed LJ school attendance boundaries.” Just an FYI here :=]
Yes, UCSD has its own zip code 92093. BTW, when did this annexation happen? I’ve lived in UTC for 10 yrs until I’ve heard of it last year. Since I was looking to buy a townhome in LJ zip – only High school is optional – i.e. you have a choice either UCHS or LJHS. Strangely enough you don’t have a choice for elem/middle which are Torrey Pines elem and Muirlands Middle (LJ). The boundaries may change in the future.I don’t know what website says which schools you are “guaranteed” to attend. Can they even say that? What if a school (e.g. Curie) gets full? I am talking in general. I’d like to know such a website.

When I mentioned “guaranteed attendance” (from Ramsay Ave 92122), I meant that Ramsay Ave is within the UC attendance area, is within UC, is bounded by UC’s geographical and topographical boundaries. Curie/Standley/UC and the homes on Ramsay Ave have been there for many years and those schools serve Ramsay Ave. There are no other schools that serve Ramsay Ave without zoning out. I’ve never worked for SDUSD but would surmise that if Curie is nearing capacity, it will not take any more zone transfers. Those students residing in Curie’s home attendance area will have priority over admission of zone transfers.
The 92122 multi-family areas you are referring to here are not situated in UC or LJ, but in “UTC.” There is a small “finger” area of 92037 just west of there that is all multi-family and bound by LJ Village Dr, Gilman and I-5. I think this may be one of the areas you are referring to that had a listing that stated it was within the LJ school-attendance area OR UC (“choice”). If LJ schools are nearing capacity, this area could be changed to the UC attendance area. In this case, I believe LJHS could have a mandate to accept a certain amount of deserving VEEP zone transfers, offering them the opportunity over and above offering slots to “choice” or “non-guaranteed” areas, such as the “Gilman multifamily/commercial area.” The VEEP students usually provide their own transportation. The Elems/MS’s in LJ may not accept VEEPs so may have more room for “choice” areas like Gilman Dr. I’m not really sure how this works for elem/middle. Again, I don’t work for SDUSD and never have. There is a Pigg that does work for the District, but I can’t remember her name right off.
I don’t know when UCSD got its own zip code. Most large gov’mt installations have their own zip codes. In a 1994 Thomas Guide I have handy to refer to, UCSD and the Scripps Institute are still in the 92037 zip and the adjacent VA Hospital has a 92161 zip. I can’t remember the year of the SV annexation (92121). I believe it may have been around 1977. In the early 80’s, I can recall that there wasn’t much of anything there except for a cemetery and 3 or 4 companies at the SV Rd exit. There was nothing but some agriculture and migrant-worker camps in the adjacent area of what is now 92130. I have a stack of old Thomas Guides somewhere in my attic which would tell this tale. Here’s some history I found on the “Soledad Fwy,” now SR-52.
California 52 has been built in stages, initially between Interstate 5 and Interstate 805 and gradually extending east, with the final planned segment to open between California 125 and California 67 in Spring 2011.
Key Opening Dates of California 52 freeway sections:
* La Jolla Parkway (former Ardath Road) to Interstate 5 – May 28, 1970
* Interstate 5 Separation to Ayar Overhead – December 23, 1966
* Ayar Overhead to Genesee Road Undercrossing – May 28, 1970
* Genesee Road Undercrossing to Interstate 805 Separation – March 22, 1972
* Interstate 805 Separation to San Clemente Creek – July 28, 1987
* San Clemente Creek to Convoy Street – July 28, 1987 (widened August 5th, 1994)
* Convoy Street to California 163 – June 30, 1988 (widened August 5th, 1994)
* California 163 to Interstate 15 – June 30, 1988
* Interstate 15 – April 4, 1988
* Interstate 15 to Santo Road – April 4, 1988 (widened December 17, 1993 and again in 2009)
* Santo Road to San Diego River – December 17, 1993
* San Diego River to California 125 – May 15, 1998
* California 125 to California 67 – Spring 2011See: http://www.aaroads.com/california/ca-052.html
Scarlett, I still feel like you should give some more thought as to that second, larger listing on Ramsay Ave for your family (east end of UC). Both UCGal and CDMA ENG gave rave reviews for the neighbors and area and UCGal grew up there. It doesn’t get any better than that in your price range. I believe UC can better withstand cyclical downturns than the other areas you are considering. Again, just my .02.

I AM going to arrange to see it next week hopefully to see if it would fit our needs. I am surprised it’s still on the market and that they dropped their price last month from 525K. Of course I wouldn’t be happy if we’d decide to choice into MMHS but that’s a few years in the future…
