8 pm in Saint George and currently 93 degrees. Such bliss
Yep, it is hot here for 4 months of the year. But remember that because of our mountains and higher elevation, there is a 30-degree swing in temperatures between late afternoon and early mornings, when an 87 degree high means mornings in the 60’s.
BTW, it is hotter in lower elevation Phoenix and Las Vegas, which doesn’t seem to slow refugees from CA to those rapidly growing cities.
Fake News! It also reaches below freezing most days for four months out of the year. Thank you EconRoker!!
September 17, 2021 at 6:03 AM #823201EconProfParticipantNewsflash: they are called seasons.
September 17, 2021 at 7:39 AM #823202EconProfParticipantYeah, St. George has such terrible weather and unsophisticated rubes and retirees. Nothing exciting here happens compared to sophisticated San Diego.
So why did the INTERNATIONAL World Championship Ironman Triathlon pick us for their annual event happening tomorrow, Saturday? 6,000 runners/swimmers/bicyclists.
In past years, they have picked Oahu, San Diego, and other worldwide locations. St. George–so boring.September 17, 2021 at 2:41 PM #823207sdrealtorParticipantExcellent the world’s eyes will be on you this weekend. Maybe next year you’ll really step it up and get an archery tournament
FYI they picked a low population location with liberal covid restrictions and they anticipate there will be less than half the usual number of participants. It was moved there last second from New Zealand and they obviously had very limited choices. Dont plan on this being anything more than a one or two off occurence
September 17, 2021 at 3:49 PM #823210svelteParticipantAs I’ve said, I’ve come across the part of my family tree that is from Idaho and Utah. These people had at least as much drama in their life as Californians do. Divorce rate was just as high. Most of them polygamists in the 1800s. I found an article where my grandmother’s brother had her arrested for assault!
And the icing on the cake: my grandfather’s sister was murdered in SLC in the 1960s, and the story didn’t even make the first section of the newspaper. Some dude got angry at her, dragged her out of the place she worked, and shot her dead on the spot. Didn’t even make the first section of the paper…must not have been earth shattering news in SLC.
He was convicted and sentenced to life in prison.
The great state of Utah let him out after 12 years and he kidnapped another woman. Luckily someone intervened or she would have been dead also as he had a loaded 357 on him. Back to prison he went.
Yes, that place is so much better than California!
September 17, 2021 at 4:39 PM #823211CoronitaParticipantI find this really interesting… What’s up with people that leave the state and still like to throw salt at CA? Don’t get it… if people are so much happier elsewhere, why do they still need to come back to this thread to try to convince how much better off they think they are? Makes no sense.
Slow bingo night?

I doubt they moved it from New Zealand at the “last second”. NZ has been totally locked down due to COVID for at least a year. Sources please.
One or two off occurence? It is already scheduled for next year.September 17, 2021 at 5:29 PM #823213svelteParticipantPerhaps not happy until others are unhappy
Or unsure of the huge decision he’s made and trying to convince others to take the same path for validation
Or perhaps trying to convince us he is smarter
Perhaps bored as your bingo comment suggests
Or he’s crossed into crotchety old man territoryAll seem plausible to me…

The irony of this statement is wonderful. I mean this thread is chock full of posts that could be used to argue this. Why do so many feel the need to tell EconProf what a miserable choice they’ve made?
Or unsure of the huge decision he’s made and trying to convince others to take the same path for validation
How is it different than those that have stayed and want to convince others how wonderful it is where they have stayed and how foolish anyone who left is?
Or perhaps trying to convince us he is smarter
Oh don’t even try to claim there’s only one side here trying to make themselves feel smarter.Don’t get me wrong, I have no plans to move from San Diego, but I sure do wish y’all would just let EconProf sing the praises of Utah and help encourage others to move. We got plenty of people here and could easily lose a ton more without degrading our lives.
September 17, 2021 at 6:56 PM #823215CoronitaParticipantI would like to know how many times EconProf got carjacked in CA, robbed, had something big stolen, had someone break into his house, how many times he called the cops because his personal safety was in danger while in CA…instead of just being the Faux News Lemmings

I got my car broken into and all my stereo stripped, got my car stolen in front of the house, got my back window bashed in. My neighbor got robbed because he forgot to close is garage door. This is also not in the ghetto of San Diego. I was pretty blind to the ghetto until I worked in east village. At the parking lot, my coworker got his car pooped on by a person and he caught him in the act.September 18, 2021 at 1:34 AM #823218flyerParticipantEP.
Just enjoy yourself, and don’t worry about CA. We’ve all made different choices for different reasons, and, hopefully, we’re all happy with our choices. Glad to hear you’re happy with your move. Enjoy the seasons!

That is a little dramatization though. Those things happened over the span of 30+ years lol -
