I should have clarified. Most of my "shopping" today was online. I did venture out to Los Angeles, and did notice that the malls were pretty packed (seemed kinda different than san diego).
Rest assured. Americans will continue the tradition of spending money they have and possibly even find more creative ways to spend money they don't. Credit crunch. It's not stopping the majority of the people it seems.

November 25, 2007 at 1:09 AM #103412jeemanParticipantI went to Fry’s at 4:15am on Friday morning. Last year, I got there at 4:45am and the line spanned the front of the building and 1/2 way down the right side.
This year….the line circled the building 1 1/2 times. Over 5 times longer. What a nightmare. I didn’t get what I went for.
I drove by Walmart also…huge long lines. Don’t know how it compared to last year’s. We left without standing in that crazy Fry’s line and went to Starbucks. Starbucks was really busy at 4:40am.

November 25, 2007 at 6:10 AM #103439lostkittyParticipantI took my kids to a mall near us here in upstate NY (they wanted to see what all this “Black Friday” hype was about – and I had never been on this day myself). Parking lot was jam-packed. Everyone angry and aggressive trying to find a spot.
Inside the mall…. people everywhere. Crowded! My daughter bought a book and stood in a line of three people. That was the longest line in any store we went in all day. Place was mobbed, but very little spending going on. We bought three things all day. Really, there was nothing to buy. Only spent money at Borders, JCrew, and Gap. And we did not buy anything over 25$… even at JCrew.
We stopped by Target on the way home…same… no lines whatsoever.
