spd, you would be quite right. My cousin is an IT director for a big bank (yes, the devil)
He can retire already because he invested wisely in real estate. In NYC metro there are many small commercial buildings with restaurants, stores, and apartments that small investors could buy. In San Diego, almost everything is master planned — not good for individual investors. That said, some people might find NY metro “shithole” because the housing stock is old and needs doing up. Some people like new, builder grade, move in ready. I find that millennials are less fussy. They don’t mind “character” and urban grittiness. In fact, they prefer it.
February 15, 2019 at 9:57 AM #811799The-ShovelerParticipantLOL The fast aging Younger childless millennials maybe.
The Millennial parents I know are “VERY” fussy and want good neighborhoods in good school districts.
Paying up to 2Mil for it in SD.
February 15, 2019 at 10:16 AM #811800FlyerInHiGuest$2 million is fine anywhere.
San Diego is doable…. but suburban sprawl is soul destroying. That’s why there’s a return to the city. That’s where the action is.
I ordered some stuff at Ikea recently and the guy in front of me was an Indian dude (tech worker) living in Murrieta. Really? The commute and living environment must be mind numbing and soul destroying.

Oh well, NY doesn’t need those 25k jobs to make up for that lost tax revenue, right?…. …. AOC probably is proud…. More room for Green Deal Jobs…. ha ha ha. Dumb idiots
AOC popularity has suffered quite a bit in NY because of this I hear.
She was only elected by low voter turnout in a very small district so maybe she was never really popular in greater NY anyway.
But yea I would rather work for Amazon in SD than NY any day.
I think the more the Democrats put AOC, Warren, and Harris in the spotlight, the greater the chances are for Trump winning re-election. I mean, the trio are just nuts, and make the entire Democrat party look nuts. And I don’t even like Trump… But the trio would be worse imho. Apparently, I’m not alone in that opinion, Comrade Shoveler!
Good news is that the government over the next few years will probably be in court arguing over the stupid wall that both sides made into a really big deal…They wont do anything more drastic…And Pelosi and Trump are going to end up deadlocking the federal government, leaving the rest of us alone. How a balanced government should be in the first place.
Party for everyone else.. Time to grab that $$$$$
February 15, 2019 at 10:58 AM #811803CoronitaParticipantLol.. Harris. The gift that keeps on giving…
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/voters-are-souring-on-medicare-for-all-180225270.htmlHarris, Warren, AOC….
Quickly redefining the Democrat Party to mean… The Freebie Party…. lol…
Playing right into Trump’s hand, with the party stereotype that is one of the reasons why he won.
February 15, 2019 at 11:05 AM #811802FlyerInHiGuestBoth sides did not make the wall a big deal. Only one side did.
February 15, 2019 at 11:14 AM #811804FlyerInHiGuestNice rhetorical offramp on your part, Flu.
Trump won because of the deplorables, not because of democrats.
I thought you believed in personal responsibility? People are responsible for their own votes.February 15, 2019 at 12:02 PM #811805The-ShovelerParticipantInner city revival is just over hyped IMO.
IMO There have been many “forced” attempts at Inner city revival but I think they will not live up to the hyped expectations (at least not in Socal).
Only a small fraction of the Socal population can fit in the downtown areas.

Yes but…. the city is the premium area where people want to live. Rich people buy houses in Mission Hills and redo them better than suburban McMansions.
In the 80s, for a house in Escondido, you could have bought a warehouse in the east village. Now, the ppsf bifurcation between urban and far flung areas is getting greater and greater, more on the European and Asian model (pretty much like the rest of the world). And now, if people can’t afford to live in the city, they prefer to live in simulated, master planned villages rather than old type suburban sprawl. Developers know it and are trying to meet demand. Civita in Mission Valley is an example. Or in Temecula, it’s more expensive to live near the mall and Pechanga (the more urban part) because restaurants, entertainment and shopping are closer. Lake Elsinore is for people who can’t afford Temecula.
I like to watch House and Home, the Canadian show. I like how they redo old houses.
I believe that without any new freeway construction, the US is going the Canadian and Australian model of urban density, in the top 10 metros.February 15, 2019 at 12:59 PM #811807The-ShovelerParticipantYea to a degree (more density),
Thing is Far flung suburbs become major cities in Socal (in 10-15 years time usually) (well at least if they are close to major highways).
Invest early.

February 16, 2019 at 1:04 PM #811821FlyerInHiGuestWow. Amazon logistics.
Big benefit for Ontario, California and Moreno Valley.February 17, 2019 at 7:37 AM #811824The-ShovelerParticipantThe whole region near the Ontario Airport is really growing fast. Amazon has a ginormous warehouse you can see just off the I15.
There are many many smaller tech and other startups in that area as well.
