Adding a few more schools. San Marcos High have some very impressive numbers.
Yes, can’t wait to see homebuilders put out signs with “San Marcos School District” at their model homes. Will the ones in Carlsbad take down the ones that advertise “Carlsbad Scools”?

Don’t hold your breath. SMUSD and SDUSD still does not hold the same caché, even when the numbers say otherwise. I don’t suspect that will change for a long long time.September 1, 2011 at 12:07 AM #727075anParticipant
Yes, can’t wait to see homebuilders put out signs with “San Marcos School District” at their model homes. South Temecula’s Great Oak H.S. got an 854, It’s one mile outside of S.D. county, stacked up fairly well in a three way tie with San Dieguito and Poway for the 7th best high school in San Diego County if it was in SD, not too shabby for us dirt people.
I did notice that the elem my kids went to was in the 900’s, the middle school in the high 8’s and the high school, mid 8’s. I ran some of the SD coveted districts, similar decline as the kids get older. I guess that is just further evidence that we get dumber as we age, I’m sure the trend continues after school, which explains a lot about my current mental state.

I just want a great learning environment where the students can be all they can be.
If SMUSD started getting the cache of some of the others, it would draw some of the overbearing parents in. I know not all parents in the well regarded districts are overbearing, but they certainly are there.

September 1, 2011 at 8:20 AM #727122sdrealtorParticipantSo I’m always interested at what is driving scores and its looks like SEH is driving the SMUSD bus these days. The SEH Elementary posted at 947 api which is spectacular.
What is most interesing to me is what is going on at the HS level and here is my theory. At the HS level, SM High is now being fed by all the new homes in SEH, Rancho Carillo, Rancho Dorado etc which has drawn in many professional families. When you look at LCC the hispanics score 685 as they are typically from the long time bario areas in Leucadia, Cardiff and Encinitas. The typical upwardly mobile hispanic family cant afford to purchase new homes in this area. In SM newer home prices have become affordable for upwardly mobile hispanic families and theirs scores 785. The white population at SM High comes predominantly from the new developments as well and their scores are 914. Whereas at LCC you get alot of the skater/surfer dude population near the beaches who think school isnt cool so they pull the scores down to 844.
I guess the irony of it is that SM will likely become increasingly homogenous (socio-economically) while the more coastal schools are the ones that will be more diverse over time.
Of course this could all be a completely inaccurate theory. Who knows for sure?
