You shouldn’t have any problems with renting a car in Europe if you go through the normal channels ie expedia etc. There is a company called Sixt http://www.sixt.com/ which I often use in France as they tend to be a little cheaper and shorter lines. Otherwise its the usual international companies you get anywhere in the world. You can of course lease/buy a car which is quite popular alternative to rental, but I’m not sure what the advantages are.
