We’re originally from L.A., and many (most) of the wealthier people from L.A. love to take mini-vacations in Santa Barbara, Ojai, and other nearby areas.
Try to find a more “out of the way” place. You might find a better deal, and might enjoy meeting some really nice (if not far-out) people. 🙂
