I’ve heard of the demise of so many things over my 58 years. I’ve learned the more things change the more they stay the same. Change is popular to predict but it comes much slower than even the most pessimistic predictions. CA has natural resources, beauty and infrastructure other places will never have. You can line up all the data you want but the best and brightest will contribute coming here. The single biggest predictor of a city having market leading companies is the presence of a world class research university. The growth of UCSD will only make SD even more high profile over time. Places like Utah and Idaho will never have anything like that. Look at the top employers. They aren’t even fifth tier in the business world. I’m glad you have found a place to your liking and will get to enjoy watching grandbabies grow up. But it will never offer anything close to what we have here. CA leads, the world follows.
