The area is a 50s subdivision called Pacifica; the houses in the area were designed by Palmer & Krisel (“P&K”, architects who gained renown for their mid-century modern designs in Palm Springs. Basically, the owners had an architectural gem and, instead of polishing it with integrity, they tried to turn it into somebody’s idea of “Tuscan,” using cheap materials. It’s a monstrosity. Ruined. Other P&K houses in Pacifica usually fetch about $1.2 million–and those are the houses that have been polished up in a way consistent with the modernist sensibility. So, obviously, it’s not only an overpriced house, but it’s been renovated in a way that lessens it’s architectural integrity.
