Rustico, my position is different than that of a counselor in the public school system. For instance, a counselor position is dispensable whereas due to special education laws, a psychologist is not. I am authorized to perform the job duties of a counselor, but a counselor doesn’t have the training or authorization to perform all of my job duties. That’s why we are paid more. I can even go into private practice and work for myself, but here’s the catch: I need two years working as a psychologist FOR/IN a school district.
At any rate, there must be more school psychologists than jobs at present, hence my difficulties securing a position. I am really bummed about this, my education wasn’t inexpensive and I have two kids to support.
At any rate, I guess I’m going to have to consider what your friend did. I need a reasonable income coming in-yesterday.
