Women’s gymnastics is most watched sport in USA Olympics, don’t discount it. You think the Fox news watching crowd in east county thinks the world of the Chinese athletes or are going to treat your mom better than libs in La Jolla? They will all give you lip service, but in the end “Asians are just good workers bees, dont make any trouble, but they don’t have any clout so we can just step on them.”

Absolutely not, I don’t expect those fox watching crowd in east county thinks give a rats ass about asians on a personal level..But that’s exactly the point.
“Asians are just good workers bees, dont make any trouble, but they don’t have any clout so we can just step on them.”
My parents had a W-2 job, 9-5 job, never been promoted into management, never saw the huge wage increases that other worker bees that saw. Today, they are retired, with wealth that most likely far exceeded any of their “idiot bosses”. Why is that? Probably hard work, right decisions, being fiscally responsible.
And that is exactly my beef with the current Democrat platform:
(a) you aren’t going to solve really solve social inequity that asians face(d).
(b) now your going to start taxing the economic welfare that asian workers, despite all the social shit, was has accumulated through sweat and hard worker despite all the social inequities
(c) you’re going to make things “fairer” for everyone else, for argument sake who made poor decisions to get into shady loans they couldn’t afford, who drove up their credit card debts and BMW leases?????
And that my friend, is where the line is drawn. Neither party currently is interested in solving all the social ills of the asian americans. One party, on top of that, is going to now screw a lot of us economically too. And one party is going to simultaneously pointing the finger at foreign competition, protectionalism will instill, which indirectly will impact perspective of asian americans among mainstream americans(irrespective of political affiliation).
With the exception of Clinton, there was very few other Democratic leader(s), that have a truely open door policy. I completely agree Bush is a complete baffoon, and the sort of corruption in this government is out of hand (I didn’t vote for him either). BUT, I have yet to see anything from Obama’s platform to indicate that his handling of things will really be any different than Roosevelt’s playbook, which if repeats, will have terrible outcomes for asian americans or any immigrant looking “worker” for that matter.
Obama’s playbooks is going to be to play into american’s fear of economic demise. The antagonist will be foreign competition. Mainstream america will backlash against anything that “looks foreign”, because they won’t know any better. History repeating itself in the making.
The Democrat and Republican parties are oxymorons for me.
You would think a more liberal platform would align better with asian americans. You would think that a typical back-assward bible-humping conservative platform would be determintal to asian americans.
But it doesn’t seem that way. I like to separate a party’s platform mantra from what it actually does and what it causes mainstream americans to do.
I would like to believe the current Democrat parties agenda really isn’t going to impact asian americans. I want to believe Obama isn’t going to play the foreign competition card. But it doesn’t seem like that’s the case. People are losing jobs. Democrats are gonna want to keep the power. They are going to use the fear tactic that the previous bush administration used. Only this time it won’t be terrorism….it will be economic fear.

OTOH, you must admit that some cultures (including many/most Asian and European) value and have access to better educational opportunities than people coming from most Latin American or African countries. For the blacks who are descendents of slaves, there are some legitimate reasons to try and help them up more than those who come from more educated cultures/countries.

No, I don’t get it. I’m american. I never made anyone a slave. I’ve never chased down an illegal immigrant at the border. Maybe some caucasians had ancestors that did, but I don’t share the same guilt, because I’ve never done something like that.
I do know probably a few of my ancestors were probably “oriental” wage slave railroad builders from the past, if i really want to think that far back.
I do know it’s been some time since that has happened. I do know a few generations have passed since then. I do know that as human beings evolve, a majority of the evolution probably requires humans to self-manage to be better. And as human beings, we can’t always be harping on the past mistakes and past guilt and use it for making social policies as a crutch for anti-progress.
