Not that California matters, but I just stood in line for five and a half hours at the registrar of voters in Clairemont to do my early voting. When I left at around 5pm, the line was just as long as when I had gotten there at 11:30. So people at the end of the line at 5pm will be voting around 10:30pm tonight. Spirits were high, everyone was friendly, no complaining, people seemed pumped and proud to stand in line with strangers for almost 6 hours.
The majority of voters were younger, college aged, and I’d estimate mostly around 40ish and below. Lots of hispanic and african american voters. Yeah, I know, California doesn’t matter much on the national stage, but holy shit I was blown away by the turnout. If the same situation is playing out in swing states, spin all you want — McCain is due for the sixth crash and burn of his career.
