I though point number 2 was interesting in that I could see how belief in an all powerful government utilizing Socialism could be defined as a religion considering it has never worked anywhere its been tried yet so many people still have faith in it.
Kind of like libertarianism or Ron Paul.
Where has libertarianism been tried?
Neither true Marxism nor true libertarianism has ever been tried (ironically, both versions involve no government in the final product).
However, we have seen periods of very serious government control over the means of production and distribution and we have seen periods of very little control.
Both are unsustainable in a long term sense.
Every time the political relationship with the economy has been extreme (in either direction) it has been cured with revolution (eg: Russia, China, US) or reform (eg: Russia, China, US).
In the United States we had a revolution due to unreasonable crown control over commerce. This was followed first by a new strong government 13 years later and then several decades later by the reforms of Sherman Anti-trust.
