it is quite remarkable to me how a switch can flip and what seemed impossible to me, even when I had gone vegetarian (become a vegan? you gotta be kidding; pizza!); and then suddenly, it is absolutely clear and easy. On vacation, a couple times, I subjectively felt “pressured” into deviating a bit into vegetarianism; some egg in a burrito I was sharing with my wife.
I’m not an absolute purist, I recognize it doesn’t really matter if I eat a bit of cheese or egg to be polite or share but this rare exception made me realize how unnecessary any deviation really is.
the egg was ok, I didn’t freak out, or get all dramatic, but I definitely thought about the chicken who suffered, and tried to be as grateful as I could be for that bit of egg.
To have an actual piece of dead animal body meat, though, i don’t think I could ever do that again. I’d rather go hungry for a couple weeks. Vancouver is a very vegan friendly town, options everywhere, and the tide is definitely moving in favor of veganism.
