I read an interesting article the other day theorizing that as flash prices continue to plummet and sizes continue to increase, one day someone (probably Google) could give out a phone with 10TB of storage and 100GBps bandwidth for free — provided you agree to allow them to use the extra space and bandwidth on your phone for cloud storage. Essentially you’d become one tiny piece of an infinitely scalable cloud, serviced by the mesh of mobile phones floating around out there. The idea being that, yes, technology is improving faster than consumers can consume it, but someone somewhere will find a use for all of that “extra” computing power, storage space, and bandwidth.
