I now recall buying a book called the cryptojews of new Mexico. It describes catholic Hispanics who do Jewish rituals for reasons they don’t understand, just because the familys done them for generations. The theory is they went so far undercover in Spain that the family eventually forgot it was Jewish but some physical ritual lived on.
