Flu: I’m probably dating myself here, but I remember when going to McDonald’s (as a kid) was a big treat. I also remember my meal consisted of a cheeseburger (the little one), small fries and a small drink (like 12oz). We weren’t poor by any stretch of the imagination, but my folks treated going out as a pretty big deal.
I didn’t sit on my ass all day long either as a kid. We went and played outside until the sun went down and in spring and fall, I played baseball (Little League) and football (Pop Warner). I rode my bike everywhere and wouldn’t think of asking my mom for a ride to practice, I took my bike.
We didn’t overeat and we exercised. As a result, we weren’t fat. I coach football and I have kids that, when the season begins, literally cannot run a lap (440 yds) without stopping to catch their breath. It’s frickin’ scary.
