I drove from La Costa (near The Forum shopping center) to the Qualcom business parks, and I would have to agree with Cbad. It usually took me around 45mins (about 25mins with no traffic, but there was almost always traffic). And of course SEH is even further away (another 15 mins?).
I would urge you to consider looking in the area we rented. We lived on Segovia Way near Calle Barcelona. La Costa Heights was an amazing school (lots of resources), and the other elmentary schools in that area, as well as the highschool, are among the very best schools in San Diego.
There are older 70’s developments sprinkled throughout the million dollar homes there, and if you’re patient you can get a 4 bdrm for around $500k. You would have less commute & you’re much closer to shopping, the beach, and the 5 freeway. We rented a small but nice 3 bdrm for $1850/month. Also there is no HOA or Mello roos on the older streets. Please consider La Costa over SEH! We loved that area.
Another thing to consider is although Sorrento Valley/La Jolla/UTC is a great business hub, there is another business hub in Carlsbad near Palomar Airport road with lots of employment opportunities. I eventually left my job in Sorrento Valley for an even better job in Carlsbad, and my commute was only 12 mins!! Something to think about.
I think that area is one of the best kept secrets of SD.
