I was born in San Diego and am older (49).
I grew up here. But moved away in my late 20’s for more than a decade. I lived in WA state and in PA.
I chose to move back to San Diego.
I have no regrets about moving out of San Diego and am sure that this is a place I want to raise my kids. But that’s a personal choice. Others may be feel that this is the last place they want to raise their kids.
The concept of chucking the job thing is interesting – but that’s separate from whether to stay or leave San Diego.
I’ve been considering what it would take to not work, and working on making my life more frugal. My hope is to chuck the day job around age 55… but a lot has to do with getting the house paid off and kids college funds funded… And have enough resources for health insurance. Even with the HCR laws – it isn’t going to be free or cheep.
I could not have considered retiring at the OPs age. Not without hitting the lottery or getting a big inheritance.
Stay or go. Quit your job or not. It’s up to you for whatever reasons you choose.
