Actually, about incentives, the subject has been well studied.
First if we want to reduce the deficit, the easiest thing to do is to tax people who have the money and can afford to pay. Just like a business would make the higher profit margins from wealthy customers. It makes no sense to look for additional revenue from people who are already tapped out.
Humans are very competitive and will always strive to be in the higher strata. No matter what society we are talking about, people will always strive to move up the social economic ladder.
Let me give business example.
In the airline industry, it costs so much to fly a plane from point A to point B. But you have coach, coach plus, business class, and first class.
The traveler in the premier classes will pay proportionately much more towards the cost of running the plane. They do so very gladly because of the exclusivity and service.
The same principle applies in life. When you get richer, you enjoy a nicer lifestyle, you live in a nicer house, you enjoy multiple houses, etc… For that benefit in society, you should be willing to pay proportionately more.
If government were run like a business, as Republicans want it to be run, it would maximize revenue from those “customers” who can afford to pay the most. And if “customers” don’t want pay more, they have the choice of remaining in coach class.
Briansd, I’m happy you’ve commited to being poor the rest of your life. Afterall, only deserve what you wish for.
