I used to think that when I was getting change back from a retailer who was Asian that they were being rude by putting it on the counter, now maybe it isn’t so. I still think it is being impersonal though when eye contact is avoided, maybe that is an ethic thing too however, because when bowing I believe eye contact is not maintained, unless bowing before a fight. P.S.- I generally don’t initiate a handshake but will not generally shirk from one as germs are what make our immune system strong.
