Sounds like they shouldn’t do it. This might be a “poster child” case for why we need national health care. Poor people get free health care. Rich people can afford it and people just a notch or two above poverty have to pay disproportionately relative to their capacity(even for insurance) or take a relatively large, if not ruinous hit to all they have worked for because of illness.
