Now in the “Road to Wiggan Pier” Orwell classified all sorts of “cranks” as unfortuante advocates of socialism. He wanted the ranks to swell with a different type that seemed uninterested. How was that supposed to work? He wants reform but he doesn’t want it to be organic. Does this explain the attitude of control necessary to conjure up the evil notions useful to create the dystopia 1984?
