Tuvu, I wouldn’t try to talk you out of it because it depends on your current stage of life. I used to live in SF for over 20 years but now in SD for over 2 years because of job and starting a family. If you have young kids and want kids friendly place, then SD is it. SF or “Bay Area” does have kids friendly locations but those are in silicon valley like Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Los Altos. Above 30 minutes drive heading south of highway 101 or 280.
SD has better weather thorough the year but SF overall has more diverse cultures and better ethnic food. You find more Asian and other unique/exotic cuisines in SF without having to drive, just take the convenience public transportation.
At this stage of your life with kid(s) going to college and money is not a big factor, then I would pick the “City” because of higher wages, more entertainments, and better quality of life. Be warned, housing is very very very expensive!

August 23, 2008 at 6:49 PM #260771svelteParticipantIt’s a short one hour flight up there…take Southwest SD – Oakland for peanuts. That’s what we do.
We visit SF several times a year to get our City By The Bay fix….works well. It’s a wild town and we take full advantage of every inch of it.
Just got back from the Chihuly exhibit at the de Young…fabulous! We didn’t understand the appeal until we saw it in person – it is a must-see. Photos don’t even capture 10% of the beauty of his creations.
We love SF but…we love SD more. The above is our solution to the problem.

August 23, 2008 at 7:35 PM #260796TuVuParticipantThanks, piggs. I posted that while in a major funk. I had tried to go out in the backyard to do some work and almost fainted because of the heat (I think we are about 12 miles inland). I long for a cooler, cloudier climate such as S.F. or Seattle has, but I have never lived with day after day of it. I believe living in S.F. is like living in Pacific Beach…not for the middle-aged or older. Again, thanks. Yes, I am a major wuss :).
