    This rewards program is touted as providing maximum flexibility because you can cash in at anytime, no expiration, towards travel credit or cashback etc. etc. But what they don’t tell you is that the miles program is tiered so you always lose compared to a standard cashback program. But these facts are buried in pages of fine print (I found it in paragraph 52c on page 12 of a 16 page leaflet) and nowhere are the essential facts clearly published up front.

    I spoke to a Capital One Rewards agent and explained how the program is rubbish and decietful and amazingly HE AGREED!!!!!!!

    There is no reason this miles program should even exist because it is nonsense. Why would anyone want to recieve .5% cashback or even much less as opposed to every other rewards program there is out there that pays 1% cash and you can use the cashback for whatever you like? Well, the fruitcakes at Capital One claim that their program is better because the miles don’t expire. Totally stupid!

    Now it seems they have 2 versions of this card, one is “miles” and one is “cash”, I believe it is to scam people. The miles version also has cashback facility and is sold as if the miles version is the same as the “cash” version but with the added benefit of direct travel re-imbursements! Not so, since the “cash” part of the “miles” card works quite differently than the “cash” card but they tell you that it’s the same. Bunch of scamming, theiving bastards I tell ya!

    Anyways, just wanted to rant a bit about how scam oriented these greedy corporations have become and it definitely increases my belief that companies like Countrywide rampantly scammed people to inflate their profits. They should be investigated and Mozillo put behind bars.

    All Credit Card rewards programs are a scam to some extent. This is not new….at the end of the day I have only had a truly good experience with American Express.

    Capital One has always been a scam. I use the American Express Blue Cash. It has no fees and great customer service. I always use it to pay gas, cell phone, cable, etc. Last year it gave me almost 2% cash back. You also get a yearly report of where you spent your money: gas, restaurants, travel, shops, etc. Very insightful. The Amex website is very good with graphs of your spending by sector etc.

    Ya I don’t know about other cards because I too only use the Amex. It’s great if you’re in business and need to have records of all your purchases. This can be useful in case of an audit. Of course I also get the cash-back deal.

    I get the “Capitol 1” offer in the mail about once a week. It goes right in the rubbish.
