JaMarcus Russell won only JaMarcus Russell won only seven of his 25 starts as the Raiders extended an NFL-worst streak to seven straight seasons with at least 11 losses. He completed just 52.1 percent of his passes in his career with 18 touchdowns, 23 interceptions, 15 lost fumbles and a passer rating of 65.2.
That means Russell has been paid more than $5 million per win, more than $2 million per touchdown pass and more than $100,000 per completion.
While Russell’s numbers are superior to Leaf’s, he was paid considerably more money to do it and was picked first instead of second. Leaf’s rookie contract guaranteed him only $11.25 million. [Source: ESPN]

Unfunny, offensive and more than a little creepy. I don’t know what your deal is, Casca, but you have the unfortunate tendency to not only take things way more personal than you should, you also get far more personal than you should.
This whole thread was meant to be light hearted and to get everyone to ease up a little from some of the more political invective. I do take what you said personally and I’m going to ask you to remove it.

Did Leaf actually try? The Did Leaf actually try? The LSU bum didnt really try or at least he didnt look like he tried.
What’s truly amazing is how far Al Davis has fallen when it comes to picking talent.
Back in the day (1960s, 1970s and into the 1980s), he was renowned for his ability to not only pick talent, but pick castoffs and misfits (think Ted “The Mad Stork” Hendricks, Alzado, Matuszak) and fold them into what was once the fearsome Raider machine.
Russell and Heyward-Bey are just two recent examples of how tone-deaf Al has become. And don’t even get started on the coaches. Oy vey.
Speaking of Ryan Leaf, didn’t he just get indicted and go to the big house? I thought I read that somewhere.

Gandalf: Nah, its okay. I remember going to Raiders games as a kid (1970s) with my dad, and they were an amazing team to watch, especially when they played other smashmouth teams, like the Steelers. Football back then wasn’t as “polite” as it is now. I know players are bigger and stronger and faster, but football back in the day was brutal. Hell, playing in Pop Warner back in the 1970s was tougher than it is now. There weren’t as many rules and physical violence pretty much defined the game.
I think your comment about senility is spot on. The game has passed Davis by and we’re now seeing the final collapse of his reign. Beyond the Raiders, this is the guy that really made the NFL the media and marketing powerhouse it is today. Very, very sharp businessman and along with guys like Lamar Hunt made the NFL the multi-billion dollar business it is presently.
But, yeah, we really suck. Well, there’s always college ball and the Trojans. Oh, wait.

I’ve watched literally dozens of games where Manning has virtually willed the Colts to victory.
