Rating on substance, McCain focused on Obama almost the entire debate, and frequently distorted his opponent’s positions. IOW, the substance of McCain’s performance was generally to attack and mischaracterize his opponent’s positions.
Most of us have had enough of this by now. Majority of people in this country want a truthful and substantive debate on issues, and Obama was more honest and focused on issues.

I think the American People I think the American People won the debate last night, because it actually focused more on policy and less on personal attacks or vague generalities. While I’m dissapointed that both candidates felt they can cut taxes and still balance the budget, at least we got to see, side by side, the Obama and McCain plans on taxes, health care, and energy.
I doubt many minds were changed, except perhaps those who love to flip flop their vote every other day (I work with one of those guys).

It is very interesting to see It is very interesting to see how other people view the canidates. I thought there was no clear winner and while I sided with McCain more there were some things that I completely disagreed with him on. However, I thought Obama looked… Well… Smug. Were McCain was cranky, I expected Obama to engage in a more vigorous debate in the attack on him but he seems to try to change the subject most of the time. Obama is to smart to lay down like that unless what was saying is true. Either way I saw two canidates with socialist policies. One more than the other in different regards.

It’s pretty clear to most It’s pretty clear to most people that Obama won all three debates, but then he is a trial lawyer, is younger, has an unflappable personality, and I assume has better campaign advisors. Having said that, he behaved how I would expect someone about to take office should. McCain just didn’t seem to understand, that the more he got aggravated, the more it played into Obama’s hands. McCain did well in the first half, but lost his tenor when he gambled on an aggressive tack over negative campaign issues. It was poor timing considering the next two major issue, education and health, were Obama favorites. I think McCain was possibly very poorly advised, and although I don’t think he is really up to the task, he probably deserved to do a little better given his experience.
