Participant
Every woman adores a Fascist,
The boot in the face, the brute
Brute heart of a brute like you.s. plath.
I’ve seen fascist brutes and the women who adore them.
Pathetic, really. But they’re out there.
This poem was apparently about her father.
I guess maybe it’s also a metaphor about people and their leaders, though. Some people like a brute with a boot in their face for some reason. I don’t get it. But they do.

That said the middle is a very lonely place right now, everyone seems to have taken a side (extreme far right or extreme far left) no one wants to meet in the middle anymore.
Sad.
Generally true.
But there shouldn’t be a conflation of a rabid hatred of trump with a lack of desire to meet in the middle. There’s an awful lot of hatred out there for trump. Obviously I think it’s well deserved hatred.
I hate trump more than I thought I was capable of hating a person. And I’m obviously not shy about telling people that. But I am more than willing to meet in the middle. Heck, some of my positions are right of center.
You weren’t talking to or about me, I know. But a lot of people seem to mistake a hatred of trump for an unwillingness to compromise. You haven’t given any indication that you’re one of those people, so please don’t think I’m accusing you of that; I’m not. I just wanted to point out to anyone reading that they’re not the same thing, and that you can hate trump and still be willing to meet in the middle. You can hate trump and be in the middle. You can be conservative and hate trump. I’m sure you realize that, but not everyone does.

Participant
Trump is not conservative in any sense.
Except in instances when doing what’s conservative means the same thing as doing what’s good for donald trump.
“I’ll do what’s good for me” is his only ideology. It’s the only one he’s ever had. If I could bet on such a thing, I’d bet my net worth that it’s the only one he’ll ever have.
Anybody who thinks he makes decisions based on anything else is blind. Or a chump. Or, most likely, a brainwashed, fox-watching fool.

Participant
More good economic news: Unemployment compensation claims were predicted to come in at 233,000. Instead, they were 190,000.
As the Trump economy continues to grow beyond expectations of the experts, the unemployment rate hits new lows, and the unemployment rate for the historically most disadvantaged falls even faster than that for average workers, the irony continues. Whatever you may think of Trump the man, his policies have done more to help those groups liberals claim to want to help than any government handouts Obama delivered.
Real economics professors are accused of being ensconced in their ivory towers.
Apparently, fake ones seclude themselves in an alternate reality and cling to any old made-up narrative that makes them feel good.

Participant
I just like seeing the reactions of the liberals.
I’m really curious about something, JAFO. I see people say this all the time. But I don’t understand it at all. Maybe you can enlighten me.
You like when we say that you’re ignorant? That you’ve stuck your head in the fox propaganda sand and are ignoring reality? That you’ve voted against your own interests because you’ve been tricked and manipulated into thinking trump cares about you? That you’re extremely pathetic for believing whatever comes out of the mouth of the compulsive liar you elected?
Why do you like it when liberals say those things about you?
That might seem like a rhetorical question. It’s not. I really am curious why you and so many others enjoy being called ignorant fools.
zk
ParticipantTrump actually said that the people of North Korea love kim jong un.
I guess I wouldn’t be surprised if trump actually is that ignorant.
The people of North Korea love kim jong un in the same way that the people in The Twilight Zone love that kid who can wish them into the cornfield. “It’s good that you killed your uncle and your brother. It’s good that we’re all dirt poor. It’s good that you put my mother and sister in a torture camp. We love you, kimmy!”
And the ones who have fallen for the state propaganda… well, that’s exactly what trump wants for himself. He wants to be “loved” by a country that either fears him or has been brainwashed to think he’s great. That’s why he attacks actual, reliable news media and props up fox news.
How do you think fox propaganda will report this?
How many Americans will now actually believe this because their only sources of “news” are fox, breitbart, limbaugh, etc. And those sources will somehow spin it into trump somehow not being either outrageously ignorant or a liar.
trump also said that his relationship with other G7 leaders is a 10. Jesus Christ. The same people who believe that North Koreans love kim jong un probably also believe that trump’s relationships with Trudeau, Merkel, Macron et al. are a 10. Brainwashed fools.
It’s dangerous and it’s pathetic and it’s disgusting. And it’s ruining our country, because these idiots vote based on their alternate reality.

Participant
I knew Snopes showed it being misattributed.
Ha! Bullshit.
I just like seeing the reactions of the liberals.
Well, that gives you the maturity level of about an 11-year-old. Not sure why you’d be so proud of that.
It does give you something to cling to, though, I suppose. The only thing in real life that is going your way politically is that liberals are pissed.
Of course, that’s pretty pathetic. You’re like a guy who’s own house is burning down and he has no insurance, but he’s happy because the neighbor he hates got some smoke damage. And your posts here are like you yelling, “take THAT, neighbor!” Brilliant.
I could really care less what you think zk.
Uh, it’s “couldn’t,” JAFO. “Couldn’t” care less. Think about it for a sec. Nah, never mind. Thinking is obviously not your strong suit.
Of course you don’t want to hear it. Facts and logic and reason that show you that you’re detached from reality exert a force to attach you back to reality. And there’s a reason you left reality. It’s too painful for you.
I’ll have to leave CA at some point the place is so crazy.
Yeah, I’m sure it would be much more comfortable for you where large segments of the population share your delusion. Try Alabama.

Participant
Whatever you may think of Trump personally, he is accomplishing objectives that liberals claimed to want. The irony is delicious.
Aw, EconProf, you poor little guy. This is all you have left to cling to, isn’t it? A made-up narrative supported only by the standard half-truths, misinterpreted statistics, wishful thinking and distraction sold by right-wing spinners.
In truth, Trump is “accomplishing” next to nothing. Unless you count reducing our standing in the world, weakening the rule of law in our country, freeing racists and misogynists and islamophobes to speak up, giving rich people a tax cut that our children and grandchildren will pay for, and probably starting a trade war.
But good for you! You’ve found your happy place where none of that is real, trump is great for liberals, and America is great “again.” Did they give you a lollipop and a pat on the head, too?
zk
ParticipantMost of the OP is complete nonsense. (Trump isn’t responsible for what’s happening in the economy, his rise in popularity probably is due to the economy (falsely attributed to him), ISIS is on the upswing, he’s done very little in Syria, and he hasn’t accomplished jack shit in Korea). Somebody’s been watching too much fox propaganda.
As for the blue wave, you’ll be eating those words come November.
zk
ParticipantWhat a great headline:
Trump’s trade policy is stuck in the ’80s — the 1680s

Participant

My TV stays on FOX News. I tried watching MSNBC, but I could not take it. I guess I am a “right wing” advocate with maybe a few liberal views that I am wiling to give up for lower taxes, a genocide campaign against MS-13, pushing car-jackers into oncoming traffic, and getting rid of economy killing regulations.
Do you see the possibility that some of the views you hold might be based on lies? Lies that fox news is telling you?
I never get an answer to this question.

Concur. I read Guardian and BBC a lot. I’m looking for good non-British sources.

There are other options.
I can’t watch MSNBC either. I can’t really watch any television news. They spend so much time and energy throwing emotion at you. I just want to say, “Jesus, calm down. Just the facts, please.”
Try reading the New York Times and the Washington Post.
