Here is an article about the TV you were asking about.

Thanks for the link, John.
Apparently there are a lot of rave reviews out there on that TV, usually with the glare caveat. I don’t know why I’d buy an LCD with a glarey screen. That’s the main reason I don’t want a plasma TV, which would probably have a better picture for the price.
The article mentioned that the 5 series doesn’t have the glare but also doesn’t have the 120hz refresh rate. That might be an option.

doesn’t think a 120hz refresh rate is that important. I’ve heard otherwise. Any opinions out there on 120hz?

Participant
I’m still too cheap to spend a grand on a new tv. Its funny because every upside home I go into has a plasma or 3. I can afford to put one in every room and still have a 7 year old rear projection big screen.
Yeah, I haven’t bought a TV in 11 years. We’re still watching a 36″ tube TV. The picture is starting to expand so you can’t see everything anymore. And still, I can’t pull the trigger on a real nice TV. As stated in the OP, prices have come down quite a bit. Any educated guesses as to what might happen to the prices as this recession wears on?

Participant
The Samsungs are also excellent, but I hate the reflective screen.
Yeah, I was all ready to buy a Samsung LN52A650. Consumer reports gave it a great review, it has the 120hz refresh rate, and you can get one on Amazon for $1846 with free shipping and no tax. All I had to do was go to Best Buy and look at one to make sure I liked it. And it looked great except for the reflective screen. Might as well buy a plasma if you’re going to have a reflective screen.
Anyway, on to my question, hoping for NavyDoc’s (or anyone else’s) expert opinion:
I asked the guy at Best Buy (I know, probably not an expert) why they’d put a reflective screen on an LCD TV. He said that with that clear “coating” or whatever, you could get a better picture with better colors. Does that seem right?
