ParticipantMy wife almost didn’t want to buy our house because of the street number (it ended in 464). So I checked, and we can get it changed quite easily (and we will change it).
A rare and beautiful house, but she might have passed on it if we couldn’t get the street number changed.

Participant
But will today’s 20 somethings give a crap about a 1960’s Camaro in 2050? Probably not, except for esoteric millionaires.

I have a 1967 Firebird Convertible. I was driving it through the neighborhood the other day and some teenagers were standing around as I stopped at a stop sign. They said, “Is that a Gran Torino?”
For those who don’t know classic American muscle cars, those two are about as similar as a Fiat Spyder and a Mercedes S class. So, yes, probably today’s 20 somethings won’t give a crap about a ’60s Camaro in 2050. They won’t even know what it is.

Participant
Brian:…
I could rebut each of your points, all of which are not only factually erroneous, but laughable on their face and as to substance.
Your entire line consists of: “Democrats are never wrong and Republicans are ignorant, gun-toting, chauvinistic religious zealots”. Do you consider this viewpoint open-minded? Just curious, because it is horribly bigoted and ignorant and you seem smarter than that. You’ve been well indoctrinated, I’ll give your professors that.

Am I the only one who sees Allan’s hypocrisy here?
Allan, first you say everything Brian said was laughable, but didn’t give any counterarguments or true rebuttal. Then, in the very next paragraph, you accuse him of saying nothing but “we’re right and you’re wrong.” Which is exactly what you’d just done.I was enjoying the back-and-forth until that post. I know you’re better than that, Allan.
I know that a lot of people have a pretty low opinion of brian’s style. I personally don’t agree with that opinion, but that’s unimportant. To rely on that consensus to avoid giving a counter to his points is just plain weak. I’d be interested to hear your rebuttals to brian’s last post, Allan, and I’d be interested to hear what brian has to say to your rebuttals.

Participant
We’re seeing a near total repudiation of the “Big Government is Good” lie throughout the world. Look at the rise of center-right governments in Scandinavia, the massive changes taking place in Britain, and also France, and the realization amongst American voters that we’ve been sold a bill of goods.
When you’re basing your case on what the American (or any other) voters think, you’re obviously scraping the bottom of the barrel for scraps of evidence to back your theory.
To call what we’re seeing now bad big government is like calling a 70-yard pass into a group of players from both sides in the end zone when you’re down 7 points with 4 seconds left a bad play. Sure, it’s a bad play if you look at it in a vacuum. But, in real life, it’s either that or sit around and let your team lose. It’s really your only option. And it’s a response to the team’s poor play in the preceding 59 minutes. It’s not a decision that was made in a vacuum.
Nothing lends more credence to your post, or is more telling in terms of how business leaders mistrust this president and his administration, than the statistic that tells us that between $800Bn and $1Trn is sitting on businesses’ balance sheets and is not being used at present.
They’re hoarding that cash because they’re afraid of deflation. They’re afraid that there’s not enough stimulus. You’re arguing against yourself here, Allan.
And here’s another article, this one from the WSJ, for those of you who don’t believe anything in the NYT.
