Participantdoes seem rather unethical to me.
The house buying process can be so frustrating. Wouldn’t it be easier if all offers were visible to both parties? As a buyer, you can see what other buyers are willing to pay and how much down payment they are bringing, and see if you’re willing to pay more. I think the seller would benefit from this Ebay-like transparency because it would encourage bidding war and getting the highest price. Buyer’s benefit from having an opportunity to submit additional bids to get their dream house.

Participant
For that money in Poway, I’d be looking at something like a 2000 sf on a half-acre …
Poway is seriously overpriced (unless you have a kid who’s in high school or will soon be in high school). A house 1000 feet from mine just closed last month for 650K. It was 4000 square feet on 2.25 acres. The commute to any point in the county is at most 10 minutes longer from here than from 13625 Holly Oak Way.
What area do you live in? Maybe I need to start looking in a different area…

ParticipantNot disagreeing with you guys, but just adding that perhaps the seller thinks it’s justified because of the relatively new-ness of the house. The floor plan is good (more modern and space is well allocated). How much premium does a relatively new house usually fetch? 10% more than comparable “older” house?

ParticipantAny ideas? I guess I could go visit the Poway city hall and ask about zoning rules / CC&R for planned community areas.
It might be neat to have a pet pig… Poway normal residential zones allow them :p -
