ParticipantI’m down to about one Starbucks a week, and there is one two blocks from my house! I’ve noticed the lines are much shorter lately. I don’t know if Starbucks does more or less business in Summer, but I would have thought more because of people coming in for cold drinks later in the day after their warm drinks in the morning.

ParticipantCardiff, You’re nominated to host the next Piggington Barbecue, that tri-tip sounds fabulous.

ParticipantDiego Mamani,
Did you know we’re neighbors? I’m in Moorpark!

ParticipantBugs, it’s interesting! Your memory and mine exactly coincide! What happened to PMI anyway? Are all these people that didn’t put down 20% paying it? I put down 20% on my first house in 1994, specifically to avoid PMI.

ParticipantAnd she calls herself an accountant? Sure, I want her to do my taxes!

ParticipantWhat does it make it if you state they are a duopoly three times?

ParticipantSure, online on this thread is good. That way anyone wanting to see the raw data can search the forums for “survey”.

ParticipantI agree Deadzone, LA’s salaries do not justify the prices. The same dynamics that have affected SD have also affected LA, Riverside, Sacramento, SF to greater or lesser degree. One could argue back and forth as to which area will be affected the most in a housing downturn, ultimately time will tell. I could make strong arguments why LA will far harder/more/worse than SD, but what would be the point?

ParticipantI agree, my point was you’re stated desire to have economists tell us where to invest. If economists tell us where to invest, and everyone follows this advice, by its very nature would this not be bad advice?
Everyone investing in the same things = price runups = bubbles = price declines = : (
We largely have to think for ourselves primarily looking to economists for data and possible trends, etc.

ParticipantMy thought is we should keep this really simple. Could we save the recession question for a later survey? If people feel like they’re being serveyed, they may not give off-the-cuff answers; they may start thinking too much.

ParticipantAlright, I’m not statistician but I’ll do the best I can. Please give your results along with your area. This is primarily San Diego based, but there are a lot of out-of-towners on here too, including me. It will be very interesting to me to see if there are geographical differences in sentiment. I’m betting Phoenix gets the lowest marks!
I’ll start today at my son’s football practice.
Here is the question:
“Do you think housing is a good investment over the next year? Over the next five years?”
The more people that do it, the better our results will be!

ParticipantThe purpose of our survey is not to convince anyone, in fact I would urge anyone doing the survey to not get into any debates. It’s just a fact-finding mission.

ParticipantI was going to say that the best English food I’ve had was Chinese, Indian and Greek! Really fantastic Greek food in Northern London. One of the worst meals ever: A steak in central London. How is it possible to remove any and all flavor from food? It’s an English secret, I’m quite sure.

ParticipantAs we’ve discussed in the past, I believe you can end up with a substantial tax liability if you just walk away…
