Participant
It is NOT “free” healthcare. They negotiate for wages and benefits, and they take lower wages in exchange for healthcare benefits and pensions. It’s all part of their compensation package. None of it is free.
True.. but in a way.. half-true.
1) The health care ‘benefits’ that are part of their package are not listed as part of Soc Security taxable income, as if you were paying for it through tax deferred dollars. Teachers in Los Angeles are covered to 80%, carried by the state – even in retirement.
2) Many counties, the teachers do not pay into Soc Security – they have their own pension/retirement fund. (They also can’t pay into a 401, but they do have a 403b) SS tax is not taken out in these cases.
3) When teachers are complaining about how they are paid, they forget to mention #1 and #2.February 15, 2011 at 11:47 PM in reply to: The Pigs are Famous… OK act cool everybody, there a flood of new members on the horizon? #667966ucodegen

ParticipantWhat LTV (loan to value) are you financing at?
Is there any cash back on the financing? (increases the interest rate about 0.5%, no matter how little you take on cash back).ucodegen

Participant
Yikes. My older son has this.
Despite being an engineer, I don’t. I’ve always enjoyed taking things apart… but couldn’t always get them back together right. (Doh!)He’s dooooooooooomed.
Sad thing is that during the early part of the industrial age, people with ‘the Knack’ did quite well. Now it seems to be paper-pushers, people with the gift of gab, and those with questionable integrity do well.Maybe it should be ‘were dooooooomed’.
I remember both Star Trek episodes and I think a Twilight Zone episode where the children are unable to maintain nor understand the equipment that their forefathers designed and built.

Participant
Is a “6′ x6′ cold plunge pool with a pump” the same thing as a hot tub with a busted heating element?
I noticed that.. It looks like they ‘tried’ to get the heater working, then gave up. The one of the hot tub – er – ‘cold plunge pool’ cover panels has been removed to get access to the heating element – and then just propped up against the side. You also don’t have to worry about mirrored closet doors, they were replaced by something that looks like the side of large a packing crate. – see the reflection in the round mirror.
Turquoise 1/4 round is also falling off the lower edge of the bathtub – see last photo. Water might be getting behind the tile.
