Is it asphalt shingle? tile? cement shingle?
If it’s asphalt shingle – what’s the condition… multiple layers? (you can typically do a second layer over the first – but then you need to tear it off after that. Which adds cost.)
What’s the condition of the flashing and the decking? Do you have any leaks you’ll be addressing at this time?

ParticipantSpeaking of Monsanto – just look at rGBH – the bovine growth hormone given to cows to increase milk production.
It’s been banned in Europe and Canada. From my reading, Monsanto was involved in limiting the scope of the FDA safety trials to ONLY look to see if the milk had elevated levels of growth hormone. (It doesn’t) They didn’t look to see of cows given rGBH had other endocrine changes. Turns out they have much higher levels of adreniline, etc…
Monsanto had marketed this to dairy farmers for over 10 years before people learned of it. And their answer, when people heard about it and protested – Hey, it’s been going on for more than 10 years, so what’s the big deal.
I figure my kids don’t need to get excess hormones from their milk. So I buy my milk at Henries. (drug free cows.)

Participant
On a similar vein, I saw King Corn a couple weeks ago and it was eye-opening: http://www.kingcorn.net/
I agree. That movie definitely made me think about my food choices. And it showed the government involvment in farming from a financial perspective. (No profits in corn unless you get the subsidies. It’s impossible to grow/sell corn at a profit w/out government subsidies)
