I’ve not been to Greece yet. But I know a Greek-American guy who moved there, got married, and lives there part of the year.
I understand that people over there don’t like to (or can’t) take on mortgages. They build onto their houses as they have money. So there are lots of houses in perpetual construction.
The people are not mortgaging the future. But too bad the government took on too much debt.
I think there’s a property tax issue as well – it’s not fully taxed till it’s “completed”. So a lot of homes are in various stages of “incomplete”.UCGal

ParticipantSouthern Italy – probably Sicily – maybe Puglia.
Hubby has some 2nd/3rd cousins in Sicily – so we have a toehold.
Husband and sons should hopefully be recognized as dual citizens soon – so that will make residency requirements/visas, etc a non issue.
National health care could make retirement money go further…
Weather in eastern Sicily is remarkably similar to San Diego. Mid 60’s in the winter, Mid 80’s in the summer. Palm trees and citrus trees… beautiful shoreline.

“Gourmet kitchen features floating stove, granite counter tops, black/stainless steel appliances.”
Strange…
My husband and I both looked at that – and we agree…. WEIRD! Why would you do that?UCGal
