I lived in a twinhome for a few years, and it was actually a pretty nice experience. Forces one to get to know their neighbors, and acknowledge a small amount of interdependence without wanting to strangle each other on a regular basis. The bigger problem with twinhomes is that they tend to be buried in suburbia.

treylaneParticipantWhat do you DO with 3000sf of indoor space? Verrrry few families these days with more than 3 kids, most just have one or two… and I know for a fact that families of four fit perfectly comfortably in 2000sf of space. So there’s an extra 1000sf of space (AND the three car garage) for what? Two formal dining rooms? Bowling alleys?

treylaneParticipantSurvived the .com bust with just a couple scratches – never unemployed, but definitely slow / nonexistent wage growth for awhile. Once wages started heading up again in 03-04 I started looking at listings in my (fairly old) neighborhood. The parents/in-laws started getting VERY noisy about “investing in real estate” … reminds me of when they started getting VERY noisy about investing in tech stocks in 00. Dodged that bullet too.
Even though I wasn’t picky, any 1000sf box that didn’t need serious repairs would do, there was NOTHING acceptable under 500k. The payments would have been approx 3x my rent! A friend of mine sent me the link to piggingtons and I’ve been infuriating the parents and in-laws ever since.
