“Back in the day” I rented for $195/mo in downtown Syracuse, which was outrageous at the time. I did it because I could not afford a home at the time – the homes were also outrageous at about $35,000. I was POed. But I drove my Plymouth Roadrunner with the 426 hemi and filled up the tank for less than $5.
We started having kids and bit the bullet, bought a house and was house poor for a decade or two.
In 30 years, I’ll be dead and you will tell your grandkids about the days when you could buy gasoline for $3/gallon. They laugh and say “no way, grandpa”. They wont believe you. They also will have to wait and save for a starter home that costs $4 million or more.
You are now stuck firmly between both zones.May 20, 2008 at 8:03 PM in reply to: Its official folks . . . There is a baseline of people who need/want to live in the right size home which will keep all your graphs and tables skewed. Lot’s of expanding families desiring newer areas will keep CV and Scripps from falling to the floor.
Point is – emotions and governmental interference have a greater effect on home purchases then pure economics that can be charted.
Anybody who has the SLIGHTEST bit of confidence about ANY prediction regarding the stock market, housing market, RV market, etc is just making a prediction. Let me know when you can predict group emotions and the government’s influence, and then I’ll listen. Some of you will be right (and can act like a genius later) due strictly by chance. Nobody deserves the ad homonym attacks found here, because quite frankly, NOBODY knows what is happening.May 20, 2008 at 7:14 PM in reply to: Its official folks . . . However one house in Tierrasanta looked great and we may make an offer over the next couple of days after re-looking at a few in Scripps and CV.
Can I send you the listings for (hopefully) unbiased opinion?
